Episode 7: WTF is Up With All These Orphanages?

This week on A to Z Anime Podcast…

Zack spent his weekend playing No Man’s Sky (1:15) and watching the new Voltron on Netflix (9:20). This caused a lot of internal turmoil as well as rants about Ghost in the Shell and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Air wanted to relax with some Cheer Boys!! but ended up wallowing in personal reflection instead (44:05) then cried a little at the latest episode of DAYS (48:46).

Somehow, Zack ends up talking about Macross Delta (57:47).

Air redirects the convo to her last news item, B-Project (1:09:30).

Then it’s New Release Tuesday! (1:10:37)

And how about Shonen JUMP (1:19:00)? WTF is up with all these orphanages?! Do we spend more time talking about Bakuman, which is about JUMP, than talking about JUMP itself?

Finally we get around to Lesser Known Classics: Lily C.A.T.! (2:30:45)

We’re off next week but when we return, we’ll be talking about the next in our Lesser Known Classics: Pleasant Surprises list: Roujin Z!

This one’s a long one to last you through next week–enjoy!

Episode 5: No JUMP This Week So It’s a Free-for-All

We talk about the latest news and what we’ve been up to (:43). Zack’s started playing No Man’s Sky in addition to Overwatch and wants people to get behind his shield (find him on Playstation at SuperUunnko). He has actually been doing some anime watching (Soul Hunter) and other watching (Cadillacs and Dinosaurs). Then Air fills us in on Kodansha’s rescue of Pumpkin Scissors (24:08), the return of Iron-Blooded Orphans (30:27) and tries to talk about the Fall anime Kiss Him, Not Me! but instead ends up talking about fujoshi and Kuroko’s Basketball (33:00).

There was no JUMP this week but Air checked out the free chapter of a new series Astra Lost in Space (53:08). This somehow devolves into talking about Pu, Air’s cat.pu.JPG

During the Mailbag Segment (1:00:00) we discuss listener tanukiballs’s comment about z vs zed (and then vs zeto). Somehow this leads us to our most un-pc podcast ever.

Air debuts her new segment Voice Actor Corner! (1:07:44) Thanks to fujinsei.com for the post about Hiroshi Kamiya. This segues into a discovery about Arakawa Under the Bridge.

After a(nother) distraction about KuroBas and then Naruto, Air presents New Release Tuesday (1:23:38).

Again, we get off-topic and start talking about The Boy and The Beast (1:36:47), The Wind Rises, and the dreaded F-word. Zack just can’t let it go.

Zack presents Zack’s Lesser-Known Classics. (1:46:00) Don’t ask how this ended up as a discussion about the Fraggles on crack.

We were supposed to wrap up but instead got distracted talking about Gurren Lagann, voice casting, and live action. (2:14:06) How did we end up on Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion? And drag queens?!

Episode 4: The End of a False Love

This week we talk about…

Latest news and our Weekend Update (:33). Zack watched some Ghostbusters cartoons and played Overwatch. Air watched House of Five Leaves and is excited about the new season of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju.

We “jump into JUMP” (14:00) and talk about Gintama (of course) as well as the latest Boruto, the winding-down of Bleach, the monthly installment of Blue Exorcist, and the final chapter of Nisekoi. Zack loves My Hero Academia and Air really doesn’t love Seraph of the End. Somehow we also spend a lot of time talking about things that aren’t actually in JUMP…like REBORN!.

Air talks about a couple of manga available on the Crunchyroll Manga app. (1:28:25) Princess Jellyfish is heating up and Nanbaka is looking promising as anime material.

New Release Tuesday (1:29:55)

Then we delve into Zack’s Lesser Known Classics (1:35:33). His enthusiasm for The Dagger of Kamui ultimately outweighed his urge to puke and/or sleep.

That’s it! We wrap things up at 1:54:00. Thanks for listening!

This week we talk about…

Our weekend update! Air got caught up on simulcasts with emphasis on Berserk, Heroic Legend of Arslan, and Naruto Shippuden (:43)

Zack opens a special package from Japan in this week’s Mailbag segment (26:18)

We go through this week’s Shonen JUMP (29:22)

Then it’s time for NEW RELEASE TUESDAY!!! (1:03:11)

After that is Zack’s Lesser-Known Classics segment (1:25:14) where he presents a convincing case on why you should watch M.D. Geist…
